Ward lashes out with false accusation

Chris Ward again gets the facts wrong when he lashed out at us for bringing his hidden faults to the surface. In a story that aired on radio station WHMI today taking him to task for his all-expenses paid junket to Taiwan Mr. Ward made his false accusations. The reports said he’s frustrated with the alleged attacks.

He should be because he has no answer for them, and he’s saddled with his many missteps, questionable ethical lapses, and lousy record. He accused us of calling him a racist because of the Detroit school funding flap and his photo ID bill designed to keep voter turnout low and keep him in power. These are not personal attacks but simply pointing out his record and deplorable actions while in office.

Mr. Ward’s charge is simply false. See the post on 9/26 entitled “Ward again forgets his party controls the House and blames Detroit for problems.”

We accused him of playing the race card, and that’s a true statement we stand by. He twisted facts to try and say he proposed a budget line item for the state's 2007-2008 budget that would have gone toward increasing funding equity and more money would go to Livingston County schools that instead went to Detroit Schools. Also untrue, and typical of his divisive tactics of playing off the suburbs against Detroit to make himself look good.

The frustration comes because he has been called out on his twisting of the facts, and that’s a new phenomenon for Mr. Ward here in Livingston County.

As we have said before, we welcome Mr. Ward to refute anything that is written here. That has not happened. He can even do it anonymously.

I don’t know if Mr. Ward is “hiding cannibals and aliens in his basement.” I don’t even care, but what I do care about is he is not properly representing the people of the 66th District or trying to correct the problems facing our state and our residents.

We are doing our best to get coverage. I thought he sounded fine, but I'm sure you and I are both unbiased in our assessment. You think Chris Ward was articulate, talking about cannibals and aliens in his basement.

You're a Republican. You need to find something to proud of. It sure isn't your party.

Actually, all my reactions are measured, even on dan’s site where there is so much dishonesty and spin. It’s just sad that you missed the whole point of the post. While Mr. Ward is telling us he has been trying for years to ban travel paid by a lobbyists, not true by the way, he takes an all-expenses paid vacation to Taiwan paid for by lobbyists.
Then if we swallow the excuses he’s giving us for taking the trip then he had no reason to go because there was no actual benefit to the taxpayers. I have been to Taiwan three or four times. Although it has been some 20 years, it was a great place to visit. But my Uncle Sam paid for the trip and didn’t give the chance to say no thanks.
Why aren’t you asking Ward about this contradiction? Then the trip was only discovered by accident by a reporter. How many trips has he taken that we don’t know about?

Guru! You're accusing DAN of spinning on his site? Get real!!

When DeVos sucked in the first debate, he said so. It's a partisan blog, sure, but he calls them as he sees them, which is more than you do!

When is the last time you criticized any Democrat or gave credit to any Republican? All you do is spin!

At the very least, admit you're a partisan hack who tries to spin everything as Democrat-Good/Republican-Bad...

You can’t be serious? You can’t be seriously accusing me of spinning after that ridiculous rant. I agree the Amway guy “sucked in the first debate,” but the second part of your statement is simply not true.

I watched Off the Record Sunday night, and former Republican Legislature and veteran political pundit Bill Ballenger called the Amway guy’s performance the worst he has ever seen in all his years in politics. Yet the Amway’s guy’s campaign manager had the nerve to actually claim he won the debate. Here’s a quote from the press release from John Truscott just hours after the debate, “Tonight they saw first-hand that Dick DeVos is the only gubernatorial candidate with the leadership and vision needed to turn this state around.”

Were you actually at the debate, anonymous, who ever you are? Mike won the debate from the opening statement when he talked about why he, a businessman. took the huge step for him to run for public office, and Ward, a career political who has never, ever held a job in the private sector, gave us some song and dance story about John Engler and “Be Bold.” He said absolutely nothing in the opening statement, and that was his MO for the rest of the debate.

Now, if you want to talk about specifics that were talked about in the dente, please be my guest.

“When is the last time you criticized any Democrat or gave credit to any Republican?” This blog is only concerned abut one specific Democrat and one specific Republican; those running in the 66th District. If you can dispute anything I have written about Mike McGonegal or Mr. Ward, then you can not only be my guest, but I challenge you to do so.

I’m “a partisan hack? This is a campaign blog. Do you understand what that means?

You missed my point. Actually, you made my point for me.

You spin. That's your job. That's all you do. McGonegal could have drooled all through the debate, and you still would have claimed he won. As the guy who runs his campaign blog, that's your job.

My point is, you shouldn't criticize Dan for spinning on his blog, since all you do is spin on your blog.

The pot shouldn't call the kettle black.

No, you missed the point, or you just can’t read. First you give that lie that the Amway guy admits he sucked in the first debate, and then after I told you why Mike won the debate you give some crap about a kettle. It’s waste of my time to write a reasoned argument in response to someone who can’t even say who they are when they either don’t read it or can’t understand it.

Again, Mike McGonegal won the debate, and if you think otherwise prove it.

And I will continue call out you and dan on your many lies.

Poor syntax on my part. If you read it again, you'll see that I didn't say DeVos admitted he sucked. I said DAN said that DeVos sucked. Here's what I wrote:

"Guru! You're accusing DAN of spinning on his site? Get real!! When DeVos sucked in the first debate, he said so. It's a partisan blog, sure, but he calls them as he sees them, which is more than you do!"

I don't know who won the Ward vs. McGonegal debate. I wasn't there.

All I'm saying is that you need to admit that you spin.

I apologize for your error, whoever you are. Then it was the Amway guy who lied when he put that press release out that I quoted from for you saying he won. Don’t worry about dan too much, there are plenty of other instances of his less than honest postings, but it was a welcome change.

I do call them as I see them, and if I didn’t people could pretty easily debunk what has been written and posted. That hasn’t happened yet, despite challenging people to do so. This is a campaign blog, and as such its function is to educate the voters about Mike McGonegal, his opponent’s ethically challenged record and put Mike’s best foot forward. Of course that can be called spin, and in fact just about everything can. The difference is nothing is posted that cannot be backed up with facts, and if that was not the case it would be easy to punch holes in our posts. As I said before, that has not happened yet.

If you look at our post for yesterday, Oct. 10, there are two links where you can listen to the debate. If you don’t think Mike won then come back and try and make your case.
