Party head makes stop in Brighton to defend the indefensible

Saul Anuzis, head of the Michigan Republican Party, made a stop in Brighton as part of a six-city tour to specifically criticize the Governor and defend the House and Senate for their shortsighted and irresponsible decision to repel the Single Business Tax two years ahead of schedule.

Why Livingston County? This is not supposedly a swing district.

The answer must be to defend the SBT decision that had an immediate negative effect on the state because just hours after the vote, Standard & Poor's announced that it is giving Michigan a negative outlook on its credit rating.

Clearly, Chris Ward needs defending as part of the House leadership that made that disastrous decision.

It’s ironic that Anuzis is trying to criticize the governor for her alleged “anti-business practices” when it was the governor that actually initiated the work on fixing or repelling the SBT. The difference is that she has experience working with this do-nothing-but-try-to-keep-themselves-in-power and obstructionist Legislature, and she knew killing it without a workable replacement for a tax that accounts for 25 of the state’s budget with this group was insane.

If Anuzis is so intent on electing people with business experience, he should be campaigning for Mike McGonegal. Mike is the only candidate with actual business experience, successful business experience and can work with people from both parties and to see and talk to him you don’t have to have a check in your hand. Ward has none of those qualities.

I think the most telling thing is Anuzis invited local business people to appear at the news conference with him, and not one showed up. Not one.

Mr. Guru,

Obviously you can not understand why the Repulican State Chair came to Brighton even though it will continue to be a red county in November. He came here to show the public that the Repulicans will still listen to you even if it is a shure win in November.

Also you say Granholm has a plan to become more bussiness friendly? How can you say that when she has not made 1 job herself!!!??? Dont try to say that the Google place that is opening up in Ann Arbor was her doing, because it was'nt, it was U of M's doing!!!

I know exactly why Mr. Anuzis came to Livingston County, Mr. Bigshot. It was to do damage control for the insane decision by the do-nothing-constructive Legislature and its leaders, including Chris Ward, to repel the SBT without a plan to replace it. Every newspaper in the state is lining up to point out what a cowardly decision it was, and the people are also starting to realize it.

If this is such a red county, and I admit it is but not nearly as red as you think, why is it that Anuzis invited local business people and none showed up? He couldn’t find one?

Even though this blog is not about Gov. Granholm, I'll answer your question anyway. Yes, the Governor “has a plan to become more business friendly.” It was her idea to repel or reshape the SBT, but with her experience with this lame legislature and their so-called leadership she wanted a realistic timetable. To say the governor has not created one job is untrue, and you shouldn’t get your info from talking points. Just last Wednesday she announced eight jobs projects across the state that will create and retain 2,418 Michigan jobs – she convinced companies to choose Michigan over Mexico and Alabama. To not give her some credit for google is insane. Her opponent is spending more of his millions on an attack TV ad blaming her for Toyota or Honda; I’m not sure which one, choosing to build a plant in Indiana, or some similar place. How can you blame her for that decision, but not give her credit for Google?

Again, thanks for posting Bigshot, and we appreciate your input.

Hello Mike,

I see you're wrestling with some of those 'red' county fools here on your blog.

It's hopeless defending Granholm-we all know she's totally responsible for the decline of the American automobile.

By the way Mike, my signs are gone. Did your folks come get them or did some of my 'red' neck, I mean county, neighbors demonstrate their feelings on my first amendment rights once again?

Keep up the good fight. And put some more of your signs in my yard again.

Thanks for your support and kind words Mr. Wylie. Rest assured we will continue the good fight right up to Nov. 7 and beyond. We are either going to win this thing or we are going to make Mr. Ward accountable to the residents of the 66th District again and improve our community
.
Not sure what the answer is to your sign problem. The way I understand it, they have to be off public property and right-of-ways until 30 days before the election, but your home is private property and you can display anything you want. I’m keeping my signs in my yard. If I’m wrong can some of our readers correct me?

If you click the link that says, “view my complete profile” and then click e-mail me and give me your address we will get you some more signs.

Thank you again for your support.

How can give credit to Gov. Granholm when she DID ABSOULUTLY NOTHING TO GET GOOGLE IN ANN ARBOR!!!??? While I dont know much about the jobs she created, those jobs that she created are not going to help much, while they will help a little, we have unemployment rate at 7%!!!!

Obviously it is all the same with you liberals, trying to take credit when you did nothing.

How can I give the governor credit for bringing Google to the state? Easy, because the Governor directed the MEDC to go after the new Google project more than a year ago, and assistance offered through the Michigan Economic Development Corporation helped convince Google to choose Michigan over other potential locations.

I answered your question, Mr. Bigshot, now how about answering the question I put to you in the last post?

Her opponent is spending more of his millions on an attack TV ad blaming her for Toyota choosing to build a plant in Indiana, even though published reports have shown he is lying. How can you blame her for that decision, but not give her credit for Google?

Of course you don’t know much about the jobs she has created. Try getting your news from a reliable source instead of from the Amway guy’s talking points.

I cant give Granholm credit for Google, when she only directed MEC to get Google, how come she did not do it her self? She is jumping in front of credit she does not deserve!!!! As Granholm and DeVos said it best, "We need to vote for change" and DeVos is the only hope for that!!!

Of course you can’t “give Granholm credit for Google” because your partisan-clouded brain will not allow you see facts. That’s fine; I’m not going to bother to try anymore. We’ll have to agree to this, I won’t give the governor credit for attracting Goggle to the state, as well as the more than 30 other companies, if you agree to stop blaming her for the Big 3 automakers losing market share and for offshoring jobs in order to pay workers slave wages.

I agree with you, we need to vote for change, and that change needs to start with the people who actually make the laws, approve the budget, decide the taxes and have done nothing for the past two years but block the governor’s plan and work to stay in power. You can start by voting for a man like Mike McGonegal who actually has successful business experience, unlike the Amway guy, and vote against a guy like Chris Ward who forgot where the 66th District is and represents lobbyists and special interests.

As for the Amway guy, give me one reason to vote for a man who was given a multi-million dollar pyramid scheme and almost ran it into the ground.
