Watch Mike win the lone debate on rebroadcasts

You will have at least 15 opportunities before Election Day to see and hear Mike defeat our opponent in the only debate between the two candidates when Comcast rebroadcasts the debate sponsored by the Pres & Argus that originally took place on Oct. 9. The debate will air on Comcast Cable channel 17.

The air times are as follows today, Sunday Oct. 29 at 5 p.m.; Monday, Oct. 30 at 1 and 9 p.m.; Tuesday, Oct. 31 at 10 a.m. and 10 p.m.; Wednesday,, Nov. 1 at 1 and 9 p.m.; Thursday, Nov. 2 at 9 p.m.; Friday, Nov. 3 at 9 p.m.; Saturday, Nov. 4 at 2 and 4 p.m.; Sunday, Nov. 5 at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.; and Monday, Nov. 6 at 1 and 9 p.m.

Mike was the clear winner of the lone debate, and we want you to see why. Unfortunately, it will be the only debate between the two, despite an open challenge by Mike to hold one anywhere at anytime.

Mr. Ward has been around long enough to make a difference in this economy... he has not as evidenced by his statements in the Milford Times. To me his approaches are both impractical and vague and his lack of real world work experience points me in the direction of Mr.Mcgonegal who came to my door in the rain to ask for my vote.

He seems like a conservative democratwho fits the 66th more than he resembles the profile of a typical democrat. I am concerned that the other guy seems to be on the dole.

The circle of deceit between corrupt politicians, lobbyists and special interests must be broken in this election. Mr. McGonegal's ethics is our main reason why Anita and I will vote for him.

Welcome to the blog, Voter, and thank you for your contribution. I’m not sure how much Mr. Ward can fix the economy, but he has no solution or plan to address it at all. Mike has a plan to create jobs, and you can see it on the blog posted on Sept. 27. If Mr. Ward has a plan I have not seen it and don’t know who he’s sharing it with.

I do agree with you that Mr. Ward does not have the attributes or experience to address Michigan's struggling economy and Mike does. This is a complex problem that will require everyone at the table to find a solution, but Mr. Ward’s record has proven his arrogance and power plays have made enemies on the other side of the aisle and he has changed the atmosphere in Lansing like never before. Mike has almost 30 years of actual, business experience it the real world private sector. Mr. Ward has zero, and he has never held a non-government job.

I’m glad you got the chance to meet Mike at your front door. He had been trudging through rain, heat and cold for months in an attempt to meet every voter in the 66th District. With the election just eight days away that’s not going to be possible, but he’s still knocking away.

You are right, Tom, in many ways Mike has better Republican credentials than Mr. Ward, especially years ago before the GOP took an extreme right turn, and Mike is honest and up front. Mike has actual business experience compared to zero for Mr. Ward, and in this climate that’s something that is especially valuable. I would not go as far as to say Mr. Ward is “on the dole,” but his ethics and actions are questionable at best.

Thank you for your support and votes, Milt and Anita, we are going to need every vote we can get. We are banking on the fact that people cannot be happy with what’s going on in Lansing, they want honest people with real world experience representing them and our opponent continues to take voters for granted like has for the past 3-4 years.

I think it is ok to say Ward is on the take- he takes free trips free meals and a lot of free stuff that makes him obligated to do something for the person who bought his filet mignon or his free tigers tickets- if he wasn't there free its because he dont like baseball.

Well, Kahuna, we already knew whom you were going to vote for and who you think won the debate before it even started. I’m not concerned how the candidates from the 47th District did, even though I totally disagree with your ridiculous, baseless and stupid take on Mary Andersson. Mike clearly won, and he’s not even a professional career politician like Mr. Ward accustomed to those types of debates. We have challenged Mr. Ward to more debates, but the silence is deafening. No, Mike is more used to negotiating multi-million dollar contracts and closing the deal on sales contracts that mean the difference between feeding his family and paying the mortgage. That’s pressure Mr. Ward has never endured.

I disagree on your assessment of the closing remarks. An incumbent has so many advantages for staying in office, despite so many “missteps” and unethical behavior. He didn’t criticize Mr. Ward he criticized his record, and you should be asking him why he’s running away from that record. In Mr. Ward’s closing argument while trying to defend his record he had to lie about the Green Oak mall. Here’s a question for you, was there anything untrue in Mike’s closing argument?

Pointing out an incumbent’s record is not negative campaigning by any standard. But I can see why you want us to stop.

it seems that ward is not genuine and that his role is simply to be a republican.mcgonegal is fast on the draw so ward is smart in keeping his distance from this master of greek and latin.this mike is no dummy but chris is wiser by keeping clear of mcgonegal lest someone start making comparisons between the two.

With all do respect, I really don’t care what you resent. Your take on Mary Andersson was ridiculous and baseless and especially stupid. I stand by it. I did not call anyone a name, I called your take stupid, and I stand by it.

And again, Mike’s closing was right on, and I find it amazing that you still don’t understand how a DOWNTOWN – that’s the key word here - Development Authority works and insist Howell and Brighton are doing something wrong.

I’ll explain it one more time for you, the law establishing DDAs was established in 1975 to combat and halt declining property values and deterioration in downtowns. One of its intentions was to give traditional downtowns that have become the fabric of American life a weapon to fight huge shopping malls that were just coming on line in the ‘70s that had ample free parking, uniform hours and everything within walking distance.

To form a DDA you have to have, first and foremost, a downtown or commercial center and then falling property values. Ward’s law did away with the dropping property values, and it was a law to benefit one person, the developer. In case you're not aware, there is something called downtown Brighton and downtown Howell. Ever been to downtown Ocala or Green Oak lately? I didn’t think so.

Any money from a real DDA funds improvements for the many business owners, not one, as well as the public. Mike is not against a TIFA or A DDA.

The problem here is the developer is creating the problem, the traffic and the wear and tear on the roads it creates, and he had no intention of paying a penny to make the improvements his money making venture would create. He was going to reap all the profit while the taxpayer footed the bill to make his development a better one. Why are you OK with that?

Your argument that “The base taxes that existed prior to the mall being built would have continued to flow to each taxing entity” is WRONG. The property taxes there were rising and continued to rise, and placing a tax capture there puts an artificial barrier there because the property values are not falling like in a real DDA. That’s why a condition for forming a DDA is falling property values. The land could have stayed vacant and the property value, and the tax assessment, would have continued to rise every year.
